The automatic approach to art applies automatism to create work without engaging the artist's conscious thoughts. They typically work in a flow state with little to no awareness of what it is they are actually creating.

By default, this is little more than scribbles and vague symbols in visual art, or common words in writing, or random phonemes in speech and song... But if the artist has trained in other approaches to the point of automaticity, they can apply those skills when in this state to produce representational art (work with a recognizable subject) of similar quality to any professional -- or whatever the equivalent would be in their chosen artform.

The automatic approach has the least cognitive load of any other during use, which makes it very relaxing and accessible to beginners. It's a great way to get mileage in art without the stress of skill training getting too high and causing you to be triggered by and avoidant of art practice.

This also makes it great for warmups, as the way you step into the back of your mind and release your responsibilty over your hand helps you to be less judgemental of the outcome, avoiding negative emotions that could impact the rest of your drawing session. However, you will sometimes need to warmup your conscious skills for complex pieces as well, and this approach will not help much with that.
